Snowshoeing Meadow Mountain

A wonderful powdery snow stormy day so why not go for a snowshoe? I ski, but not very well and so I don’t have a ski pass. Hence why I am snowshoeing so much and doing my best to embrace the coldest parts of this winter.

Back to Snowshoeing. Meadow Mountain, can be found right off of Highway 70 at the Minturn exit right after vail. Google Directions here. The parking lot and trailhead are on the right side of the road when you get off the free way. At the trailhead there is a Billboard with a Map, but my boyfriend gave me basic instructions of “just go up”. So I ignored the subtle wide groomed trail/road to the left and went in-between the fences and headed up.

No those aren’t photos the hill I went up. I was too busy trying to breath hiking up the hill. It was pretty steep and there was over foot of powder. Which was lovely but it’s like hiking uphill in sand… just keep moving forward and don’t stop or you slide back down. That is what it felt like any ways. After that big hill I could look back and see an awesome view. The trial was bit hard to follow so I was following the tracks of a couple and their dog ahead of me.

Not sure if I got to the actual top. But with out breakfast and after 1.5 hours of hiking AND you could see another storm that was going to dump a lot of snow I thought it best for me to head back home. A lot of people skin up and then ski down so their return is much faster. But since I was snowshoeing my time back down wasn’t going to be too much faster then my hiking time to get up. It was an awesome work out for sure. As you can tell i’m not wearing too many layers, much less thick layers because I was working and sweating a lot. Did have extra layers in my backpack, but didn’t need them until I was about ready to jump on the car to head home.
