Snowshoeing in South Boulder
A little bit closer to home and one can still get in a good snowshoe hike. This hike is in south Boulder and specifically is in Eldorado area. The trailhead is right off Eldorado Springs Road on the left hand side. Google Map Here
The name of the trail I took is Doudy Draw Trailhead. Huge parking lot, that can be a bit icey, but a good trail with great views.
I started out on the Doudy Draw Trail, but then ended up on the Flatirons Vista trail. There were a few times it was hard to figure out where the trail was. Meaning you could see something that looked like a trial, but because of snow and ice it was difficult to snowshoe on that angle. So you kinda make your own trail as close to it as possible. Very few people had been on the trail since it had snowed so much and there was a family of 4 and a dog that were waundering all over the place. So I had to pay close attention to what I believed was the actual trail.
Despite figuring out the trial a bit the views were amazing. You cross over a frozen river with a water fall and see amazing views of the flatirons. I caught just a hair of the sunset light hitting the Flatirons. The really early evening is the best lighting for photos and made it all look really magical and cold.
