Colorado Fall Road Trip - Lunch and Weather
Driving South on 285/24 I pulled over at County Road 304, it's a State Park exit, but I can't remember which one it was. I didn't go into the park, but up the hill to the left where there was parking, toilets and picnic tables. The tables looked out over the valley below which is Buena Vista and a whole series of 14er's. The weather was perfect and gorgeous.
After lunch I went south on 285 towards Mt. Princeton. Driving around viewing the amazing chalk or limestone (not sure which one) cliffs. Mt. Princeton's foothills were just covered with aspen trees in yellows and oranges. After driving around Princeton Hot Springs and through the canyon a bit I drove up to Buena Vista. Stopped at the Brown Dog Cafe for some tea, worked on my computer and enjoyed watching local life in a small coffee shop.
Several hours later I headed out and drove out towards Cottonwood Hot Springs. I was amazed at how fast the weather at changed. I was headed towards Cottonwood Lake, but got distracted by the leaves. Pulled over and went for a short walk while taking photos. Pretty soon the light was started to go and then headed back into Buena Vista to meet up with a friend. Later that night we grabbed a camp site our by Princeton Hot Springs. It was quite chilly outside, but I was super warm and got the best sleep.
